MORE INFO After World War II, there was a severe shortage of housing in the United State. One of the attempts to solve this crisis was government-sponsored public housing projects. modern high-rise buildings built instead of the dangerous squalor. Although at first the buildings were new and looked maintained, they soon became a place of violence, crime and segregation — "black ghetto". In the end, most of the projects were demolished.
